So tell me, WHAT DOES A DOULA DO???
A doula is a birth professional who provides informational, emotional, and physical support to a birthing person and her partner. She can provide evidence-based resources to aid you in forming your own birth preferences. She is qualified to physically change your position and give comforting massage to ease the tensions of labor. She knows your birth preferences and will support those preferences throughout the delivery, as things progress and questions may arise. A doula’s purpose is to support and encourage the birthing person as well as her birthing partner through the transition to having a baby. A doula holds space for you, and helps to create your ideal birthing atmosphere - be it music, lighting, scent, or overall attitude and treatment by medical staff. She is responsible for helping you and your birth partner to feel completely confident on YOUR labor/birth day to make wise and informed decisions.
A DOULA IS NOT:
-A Medical professional
-Qualified to deliver your baby
-Someone who makes medical decisions for you or your partner
-Going to tell you what to do!
-Going to push her own beliefs on you
